The Christmas battled that saved America

Things looked grim for the Americans in 1776. Washington had lost ever battle and was chased out of New York and New Jersey by the British commander Howe. The American troops lacked munitions, food and boots. People were deserting. One third of the army enlistments were expiring on January 1, 1778.

Then George Washington launched a Christmas surprise attack across the Delaware river in a middle of a blizzard. And he won.
